Sometimes the deepest sickness is not in the body, but in the silence of the soul that can no longer speak to God.
In today’s Gospel, a mute man possessed by a demon is brought to Jesus. When Jesus casts out the demon, the man speaks again. What a powerful image: evil does not only destroy health—it silences the human person. It prevents us from praising God, from speaking truth, from living freely.
But when Jesus enters, silence turns into proclamation. Fear becomes freedom. Bondage becomes voice.

Yet, right after this miracle, we see something even more tragic: the Pharisees refuse to see God at work. They say Jesus drives out demons by the power of evil. This is the danger of a closed heart—when pride takes over, even grace is misunderstood.
