PERSPEKTIFNUSANTARA.COM– Advanced technology has had a profound impact on the world of education. In today’s era, AI is used to support students’ needs in education, such as searching for materials, helping them understand difficult concepts, and making the learning process easier. However, on the other hand, AI should not be overused, as it can lead students to become overly reliant on it and reduce their efforts to learn material deeply and independently.
According to data from 2024, there was an increase from 66% to 92% by 2025, as reported by the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI), and Kortext also states that students are already using AI to help them complete various academic tasks. Based on this data, it can be concluded that AI has supported various student needs in the learning process. Therefore, in light of this phenomenon, students must be properly guided so that the use of AI is truly beneficial to them not merely a source of instant answers.
Therefore, although AI has provided many benefits to students, helping them to learn independently without assistance from others, the role of teachers cannot be replaced. This is because teachers not only deliver course material but also provide guidance and, most importantly, instill character values that cannot be replaced by AI. According to UNESCO (2023), AI should only be used to support the learning process; the role of humans whether teachers or professors must not be replaced.
Thus, striking a balance between AI and the human role is paramount for creating quality education. AI serves merely as a tool to enhance learning effectiveness, while educators remain actively engaged in thinking, discussing, and solving problems independently.
