Friday, 8th Week in Ordinary Time Year II

(1 Peter 4:7–13; Mark 11:11–26)

When the heart is full of God, the life will bear fruit.”

My dear brothers and sisters, today’s readings invite us to examine the condition of our hearts. In the Gospel, Jesus curses the fig tree because it had many leaves but no fruit. Then He cleanses the Temple because it had become a place of noise, business, and selfishness instead of prayer.

The message is simple but strong: God does not want a faith that only looks good on the outside. He desires lives that truly bear fruit.

The fig tree looked healthy from afar, but when Jesus came near, it was empty. Sometimes our spiritual life can also become like that. We may look religious externally—we attend Mass, pray, join church activities—but inside there may still be anger, pride, unforgiveness, gossip, or indifference toward others.
