My dear brothers and sisters, In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives us words that may surprise us: “I have come not to bring peace, but the sword.”
At first, these words seem strange because we know Jesus as the Prince of Peace. But Jesus is not saying that He came to create hatred or conflict. Rather, He is telling us that His presence demands a decision. We cannot remain neutral before Him. To follow Jesus means choosing God above everything else.
Sometimes, living our faith will bring challenges. There may be moments when our values, our choices, or our commitment to Christ are not understood by others. Even our closest relationships may experience difficulties because of our decision to remain faithful to the Gospel. But Jesus reminds us that the greatest love must always begin with God.
