Jesus reminds us that loving only those who love us is easy. Anyone can do that. The real challenge is to love those who hurt us, disappoint us, or oppose us. Christian love is not merely a feeling; it is a decision to forgive, to pray, and to wish the good of another.

Tuesday, 11th Week in Ordinary Time – Year II

Readings: 1 Kings 21:17-29; Matthew 5:43-48

“God’s mercy is greater than our sins, and God’s love is wider than our hearts.”

My dear brothers and sisters,

Today’s readings reveal two beautiful truths about God: He is just, and He is merciful.

In the first reading, we meet King Ahab. He abused his power, took Naboth’s vineyard, and caused the death of an innocent man. Through the prophet Elijah, God confronted Ahab and announced punishment for his sins.

At first, this may seem like a story about God’s judgment. But surprisingly, it becomes a story about God’s mercy. When Ahab humbled himself, fasted, and repented, God noticed. Even though Ahab’s sins were serious, God delayed the punishment because He saw a repentant heart.
