Daily Catholic Reflection, 19 June 2026

In today's Gospel, Jesus tells us: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth... but store up treasures in heaven." He reminds us that earthly things do not last. Money can disappear, possessions can be lost, beauty fades, and even success passes away. But love, faith, kindness, and our relationship with God remain forever.
Father Ruben Galang,CRS (Somascan Fathers)

Athaliah treasured power and control. She was willing to do anything to keep her position. But her kingdom did not last. Jehoiada the priest, on the other hand, treasured God’s covenant and remained faithful. Through his courage, God’s people were led back to true worship.

The readings invite us to ask ourselves: What is my treasure? What occupies my thoughts, my time, and my energy?

For many people today, the temptation is to spend our lives accumulating things while neglecting what truly matters: prayer, family, service, honesty, and love. Yet at the end of life, God will not ask how much we owned, but how much we loved.

Let us store up treasures in heaven through every act of kindness, every sacrifice made for our family, every prayer offered with faith, and every good deed done in secret. These are treasures that never fade.

Challenge

This week, spend less time worrying about what you can acquire and more time investing in what lasts forever: your relationship with God and your love for others.
