PERSPEKTIFNUSANTARA.COM– The development of Artificial Intelegence (AI) in education present a complex dilemma. On one hand, AI offers remakable effeciency and personalized learning experiences. On the others hand, there is a legitimate concern that this tecnology may erode the very essence of education itself-the formation of individuals who are ethical, critical thinkers, and empathetic human beings. The 6th ICHELAC seminar emphasizes something that is often forgotten amid the excitement surrounding technological advancement: progress without values is merely regression disguised as progress. AI may be able to explain mathematical concenpt faster than any teacher, but it cannot sense when a student is losing motivation, provide genuine moral encouragement, or serve as a living role model. This is where the greatest irony lies. The more advanced AI becomes, the clearer it is that the human role of a teachers is irreplaceable, A teacher is not merely a trasmitter of information; they are an ethical gatekeeper, a facilitator of critical thingking ,and a figure who shapes students values and character. These functions cannot be deleganted to algorihms,no matter how intelligent they may be.

Nevertheless, completely rejecting AI is not a wise approach either. Teacher who refuse to adapt to technology risk leaving their students unprepared for the real world -a world that is already being shapes and will continue to be influenced by AI. What is needed is not rejection, but awarenenn. The greatest challenge does not lie in the technology itself, but in us as its users.Do we use AI think more deeply, or to stop thinking alogether? does AI enrich learning interactions, or does it replace them with cold screens devoid empathy? The future of education requires teachers who are not only technologically literate but also firmly committed to preserving human values amid the tide of digitalization .AI is a tool-and like all tools, its value depends entirely on the wisdom of the hands that use it.

Furthermore, AI should be viewed as a collaborative partner rather than a threat to education. When used responsibly, AI can assist teachers in preparing learning materials, analyzing students’ progress, and providing additional learning support outside the classroom. This allows educators to spend more time on meaningful interactions with students, such as mentoring, motivating, and fostering social and emotional development.

However, the increasing dependence on AI also demands stronger digital literacy and ethical awareness among both teachers and students. Educational institutions must ensure that AI is used to support creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning rather than encouraging shortcuts or academic dishonesty.
